After the earthquake occurred in Turkey on 6/2/2023, the Republic of Turkey suffered heavy human and material losses, which made the Turkish state seek international assistance because of the scale of the disaster, and the affected survivors suffer from food shortages, cold weather, and loss of shelter.

\nThe Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) declared the level of earthquake as Level 4 within the scope of Türkiye Disaster Response Plan. In addition, AFAD announced that international assistance was called for in the field of urban search and rescue through the ERCC (Emergency Response Coordination Center) during the meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
\nAFAD reports states that 36.187 people lost their lives, 108.068 people were injured and 24.921 building were destroyed in 10 provinces.

Earthquake; It was felt intensely in the surrounding provinces, especially in Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Malatya and Adana. Within the scope of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan, the level of the earthquake was declared as Level 4 by The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

At this time AFAD has reported at 08:00 am, 76 people lost their lifes, 440 people injured in all affected provinces. The process of damage detection is currently being fullfilled by AFAD and all related official organisations.

In with the AFAD and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, international assistance was called for in the field of urban search and rescue through the ERCC.

Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) is responsible for coordinating mass feeding services in the disaster area.
\r\nTRC maintains activity in 1,000 locations in the earthquake zone, providing aid, especially in remote areas with low accessibility.
\r\nDisplacement: According to IOM, the estimated displaced within the earthquake-affected provinces is 2.7 million, of whom 1.1 million have evacuated to different Turkish provinces. As of 6 March, 214,000 buildings have collapsed or are heavily damaged. More than 1.9 million people have been provided with shelter in the form of tents, containers, and public buildings, including dormitories and sports halls. There are also informal camp settlements and rural settlements consisting of smaller villages in the 11 affected provinces where relief interventions are more difficult.
\r\nBasic Needs: Over one million earthquake survivors received a household support payment of 10,000 TRY from the Turkish Government. The Government will also provide 15,000 TRY to earthquake survivors who are moving to a new home. In an assessment of 290 key informants in Adiyaman, Hatay, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, and Kilis, 85 per cent of respondents said that they do not have a reliable source of income, stressing the need for cash.
\r\nShelter: AFAD reports that 1,593,808 people have been given shelter within the earthquake-affected provinces, and 329,960 people have been given shelter in other provinces throughout Türkiye. Rental prices have increased.
\r\nFood: Ready-to-eat foods and hot meals continue to be needed. Out of 780 assessed displacement sites across the 11 provinces, key informants in 51 per cent of sites indicated that people purchase their own food. In 24 per cent of sites, key informants reported insufficient availability of baby foods.
\r\nWASH facilities remain a pressing need. A high need for hygiene and dignity kits has been reported, and 45 per cent of key informants in temporary accommodation sites indicated kits were unavailable.
\r\nHealth: Among the priority concerns, as listed by WHO, are the provision of essential medicines, emergency kits and supplies, prevention of outbreaks and diseases, and access to mental health and psychosocial support. Another pressing health concern related to demolished buildings is asbestos, a material used in the construction of buildings before it was banned in 2010. It can cause serious illnesses (lung disease and cancer) when inhaled, and thus its handling requires centralized systematic management in the affected areas along with the use of specialised personal protective equipment.
\r\nProtection, Gender and Inclusion: According to UNFPA, access to safe deliveries and post-natal care is a major concern as many health facilities are damaged or services are disrupted. Additionally, there is a high need for mobile and temporary service units and sexual and reproductive health supplies in the affected regions.
